In combat sports like kickboxing, MMA (especially during training), and other martial arts, headgear is commonly used for safety reasons. While it doesn't completely prevent concussions, it helps absorb impact and lowers the risk of serious injuries.
Headgear protects the head from cuts, bruises, and swelling caused by punches or kicks. It also covers sensitive areas like the ears and jaw, helping to prevent common injuries like cauliflower ear or jaw damage.
In many amateur competitions, wearing headgear is mandatory. It makes matches safer and reduces the chance of serious harm. During training, headgear gives fighters more confidence to spar and focus on improving technique without worrying as much about getting hurt.
Gloves

Boxing gloves come in different weights, measured in ounces (oz), and each size serves a specific purpose. The most common glove sizes are 8 oz, 10 oz, 12 oz, 14 oz, and 16 oz. The higher the ounce, the more padding the glove has. which means more protection for both the wearer and their opponent.
For example, 8 oz and 10 oz gloves are often used in professional fights because they are lighter and allow for faster punches with more power. On the other hand, 14 oz and 16 oz gloves are usually used for training and sparring, since the extra padding helps prevent injuries and makes fighters work harder, improving their stamina and strength.

Shin guards are crucial in kickboxing, MMA, and other striking martial arts to protect the shins during training. They help absorb the impact from kicks and blocks, preventing painful bruises, cuts, or even fractures.
